Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán predicted Friday at a European Union summit that under the new Trump administration, Ukraine would not be getting any more financial assistance from the U.S.
The EU summit, with the leaders of its 27 member countries, was held in Budapest, Hungary’s capital, just a few days after Trump’s presidential victory in the U.S.
“The situation on the front is obvious, there’s been a military defeat,” he said, according to The Associated Press. “The Americans are going to pull out of this war.”
He added that Europe could not “finance this war alone.”
European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen said at the closing of the summit on Friday that the EU would “discuss with our American friends also the fact that Russia is not only a threat to Europe, but a threat to the global security as a whole,” with hopes of persuading the incoming Trump administration to not end aid to Ukraine.
